Hidden goodies in Game Center CX / Retro Game Challenge

The first two images are placeholders within the game menu & cartridge selection screen for an unused, 9th game in Game Center CX.

The first image says "dummy spare", and the second says "spare for the 9th position", indicating that the programmers left some space free in the menus in case that a 9th game was produced. Unfortunately, it was not...

Can you read the text in the image to the left? No, not the "The End" message, which was also hidden in the graphics for Guadia Quest. No, the little squiggles above it. As far as I can tell, it's some hiragana that spells out "Sugiyama Kouichi", which is the name of the composer for the Dragon Quest series. I guess it's a sort of in-joke or tribute.

From here, it gets a little less interesting.

To the left, it looks like the graphic artist experimented with different sizes and outline colours for the title screen graphic.

Aaand to the right, we have a really interesting "Debug Menu" screen hidden away in the resources of Game Center CX 2.

If anybody knows how to unlock the debug modes in either of the GCCX games, please let me know!
